What we do, in order

  1. 01

Monthly bookkeeping. Every sale and purchase recorded, bank reconciled, and your ledger brought up to date — usually within the first week of the following month.

  2. 02

VAT returns. Quarterly submissions through Making Tax Digital software, checked against the ledger before anything is filed with HMRC.

  3. 03

Payroll runs. Weekly or monthly payroll for small teams, including payslips, RTI submissions to HMRC and auto-enrolment pension records.

  4. 04

Year-end handover. A tidy, reconciled year handed to your accountant with everything labelled — no frantic January searches for missing invoices.

Local, and staying that way

Our clients are the sorts of businesses you pass on a walk through Abingdon, Didcot or Wantage: the plumber with two vans, the café on the Market Place, the equestrian yard outside Wallingford, the two-person consultancy near Milton Park. Most have between one and fifteen people on the payroll, and none of them wants to spend their evenings double-checking spreadsheets.

Because we work within a short drive of Ock Street, we can sit down with you when something needs explaining — over your own records, in your own words, without jargon. If you'd rather everything happen by email, that works too.

Why tidy books matter

HMRC's Making Tax Digital programme keeps widening, and the quarterly rhythms of VAT and payroll leave little room for catching up in arrears. Clients who hand us a shoebox in March invariably pay their accountant more than clients whose books were reconciled month by month.

Our work is deliberately unglamorous: records balanced to the penny, filings made on time, and a short written note each month flagging anything unusual — a supplier who hasn't been paid, a customer running late, a number that doesn't look like it used to.

How a month looks with us

Week one

Your bank feeds, receipts and sales records come in — by post, email, shared drive or a short visit. We reconcile the previous month and chase anything missing before it goes stale.

Weeks two and three

Payroll runs on its usual day. If a VAT period closes this quarter, the return is prepared, checked against the ledger and filed, with a copy kept for your records.

Week four

You receive a one-page monthly summary: income, outgoings, what's owed and owing, and anything worth a phone call. No dashboards to learn, no logins to forget.

Year-end

Twelve reconciled months, a fixed-asset register and a tidy folder of source documents go to your accountant — with our notes alongside. You approve everything before it leaves us.
