An office above the shops, a ledger that balances.
BOR HULL LIMITED was founded in 2009 and has worked from the same rooms at 78a Ock Street, Abingdon ever since — up the stairs past the bakery, with the County Hall tower visible from the front window.
The director
Ioan Stetco trained in practice in Oxford before moving to Abingdon, and has kept books for Oxfordshire businesses for over two decades. He founded BOR HULL after one shoebox too many — a carrier bag of receipts handed to an accountant in February that cost the client three times what a year of proper bookkeeping would have.
Ioan still reviews every client's ledger before its monthly summary goes out, and answers enquiries personally. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and keeps the practice's software training current — a requirement that outlives most office plants.
The way we work
- 01
Plain words only. If a sentence needs the word "thereof", we rewrite it. Your monthly summary should be readable over breakfast, not deciphered.
- 02
Deadlines are sacred. VAT and payroll filings go out on schedule or early. In fifteen years the practice has missed one filing deadline — and the client heard about it from us before HMRC.
- 03
Nothing leaves without your eyes. Returns, summaries and year-end packs are shared with you for approval before submission. The figures are yours; we just keep them straight.
- 04
Small on purpose. Four bookkeepers, around 140 active clients. We grow by a handful of clients a year so the month-end rhythm never slips.
In and around Abingdon
Most of our clients sit within a short drive of Ock Street — Didcot and the science park to the south, Wantage and the Vale to the west, Wallingford and the Thames villages to the east. That geography is deliberate. It means we can collect a carrier bag of receipts in person, sit in on a handover with your accountant, or drop off a year-end pack without it becoming a project.
When we aren't working, we're probably at the market on a Monday, walking the Thames Path past St Helen's Wharf, or in the queue at one of the bakeries downstairs. The town is small; we behave accordingly.
Fifteen years, briefly
| Year | Entry |
|---|---|
| 2009 | BOR HULL LIMITED founded; first clients are two Abingdon trades and a farm shop near Steventon. |
| 2013 | RTI payroll arrives; the practice moves every client onto digital payslips in one quarter. |
| 2019 | Making Tax Digital for VAT begins. All 90 then-active clients are filed digitally from day one of their first period. |
| 2023 | Team grows to four bookkeepers; the 140-client mark passes quietly, between payroll runs. |
| 2026 | Still at 78a Ock Street. Still one page a month. |
